Senior Technical Engineer (PE or SE)
Lead complex structural projects, mentor developing engineers, and shape successful outcomes for clients and project teams
Position Summary
We are seeking a Senior Technical Engineer to join our growing structural engineering team in Boise, Idaho.
At Plan North, we are experts in solving structural engineering problems that don't always have obvious answers. Our projects span industrial facilities, commercial buildings, specialty structures, modular construction, infrastructure, and complex construction engineering. We work directly with contractors, manufacturers, architects, and owners to develop practical solutions that balance technical performance, constructability, and project demands.
We're looking for an accomplished structural engineer who can independently lead projects, manage multidisciplinary coordination, and mentor developing engineers while remaining actively involved in technical design and problem-solving.
This position combines hands-on structural engineering with project management and technical leadership. The successful candidate will be responsible for guiding projects from initial concept through construction, managing project schedules and budgets, coordinating with clients and project teams, and ensuring the technical quality of engineering deliverables.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering (Master’s preferred).
P.E. license required; S.E. license preferred.
Minimum of 8 years of experience as a licensed professional engineer in structural engineering, including experience in the design of residential, commercial, industrial, and component projects.
Demonstrated experience independently managing structural engineering projects, including client coordination, project scheduling, budget oversight, delegation of engineering tasks, and delivery of complete engineering documents.
Proven ability to effectively lead, mentor, and develop junior engineering staff.
Proficiency in design software (RISA Suite, Revit, ArchiCad).
Strong leadership, communication, and technical writing skills.
This is an in-person role based in Boise, Idaho. Must have a valid driver's license and authorization to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship is not available at this time.
Project Leadership & Management
Independently lead structural engineering projects from initial concept through construction, including establishing project scope, managing schedules and budgets, coordinating resources, and delivering projects consistent with client expectations and contractual commitments.
Structural Engineering & Design
Perform and oversee structural analysis, design, and detailing for a diverse range of projects, including conventional and specialty structural systems. Develop practical, efficient, and constructible solutions to complex engineering challenges.
Technical Oversight &
Quality Control
Direct and review engineering work performed by project team members, ensuring technical accuracy, code compliance, consistency, and overall quality of deliverables. Serve as the responsible engineer for assigned projects, as appropriate to licensure and project requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Client & Project
Coordination
Serve as the primary technical point of contact for assigned projects, coordinating directly with clients, architects, contractors, manufacturers, and other design professionals. Proactively identify and resolve technical and project delivery challenges.
Staff Mentorship & Development
Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and oversight to junior and intermediate engineers. Delegate work effectively, provide constructive feedback, and contribute to the continued development of the engineering team.
Process Improvement & Firm Development
Contribute to the development of engineering standards, quality control practices, and project management procedures. Support firm leadership in improving technical capabilities, project delivery, and overall organizational effectiveness.
Compensation and Benefits
This Boise-based role offers competitive compensation ($100K - $140K based on experience) and a $5K sign-on bonus for direct applicants.
